Leak/Meter Checklist

If you suspect a leak in your home, follow these steps to confirm:

  1. Estimate Daily Usage
    • Use the Water Usage Calculator to estimate your daily water use.
  2. Verify Readings
  3. Check for Leaks
    • Bathrooms:
      • Look for wet spots on the floor, under sinks, and around pipes.
      • Check shower heads, tub faucets, and toilets for leaks.
      • Perform a dye test** on toilets by adding a few drops of food coloring to the tank. After 10-15 minutes, check the bowl for colored water.
    • Kitchen:
      • Inspect the fridge/freezer, under the sink, and the dishwasher for leaks or water damage.
      • Look for puddles or damp spots on the floor.
    • Utility/Laundry Rooms:
      • Check the water heater, washing machine, and sinks for leaks.
      • Look for puddles, damp spots, or water damage around appliances.
    • Outside:
      • Examine your yard for soggy spots.
      • Inspect exposed pipes for leaks or running water.
  4. Report Issues
    • If you find a leak, report it to your property management’s maintenance department for repair. After repairs, contact us for further assistance.
  5. Further Testing
    • If you still suspect a leak after checking, perform a bucket test. Refer to the attached document and video for instructions. Report your findings to Conservice.

** Dye Test:

Add a few drops of food coloring to the tank of your toilet. Wait 10-15 minutes without flushing. Check the toilet bowl. If you see colored water, it indicates a leak in your toilet.
